Fos expression in the medial preoptic area and nucleus accumbens of female Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica) after maternal induction and interaction with chicks

چکیده
The neural system underlying maternal caregiving has often been studied using laboratory rodents and a few other mammalian species. This research shows that the medial preoptic area (mPOA) integrates sensory cues from young that, along with hormonal environmental signals, control acceptance of neonates. mPOA then activates mesolimbic to drive motivation activities. How components this respond experience exposure in non-mammals rarely examined. To gain more insight into question, virgin female Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica) were induced be through four days continuous chicks (Maternal), or not exposed (Non-Maternal). Chicks removed overnight Maternal group half females each for 90 minutes (Exposed), (Non-Exposed), before euthanasia. number Fos-immunoreactive (Fos-ir) cells was examined as marker neuronal activation. As expected, repeated behavior females, which persisted after separation, suggesting formation memory. In contrast, Non-Maternal aggressive rejected when them. Exposed whether they given prior (i.e., regardless if accepted during euthanasia), had Fos-ir compared Non-Exposed females. nucleus accumbens (NAC), high all again lateral bed stria terminalis, site involved general stress responding, groups did differ cells. These data indicate conserved role NAC across vertebrates, acutely responding salience rather than valence offspring cues, showing longer-term changes activity positive even without recent young.

Feeding and Growth of Japanese Quail (coturnix C. Japonica) Chicks with Unpredictable Food
We investigated the effect of unpredictable feeding times on feeding activity and body mass gain in fast growing Japanese quail (Cotumix c. japonica) from 7 to 31 d of age. Quail chicks were subjected to a long day length (18L:6D) with ad libitum food during (1) 17.5 h of the light period, starting 0.5 h after lights-on (group A, n = 14), (2) 6 h of the light period, starting 0.5 h after lights...
متن کاملGenetic Polymorphism in Prolactin Gene and its Association with Reproductive Traits in Japanese Quail (Coturnix japonica)
The present study was carried out to investigate the polymorphism of intron 3 to exon 3 of prolactin gene containing 24 bpindel at nucleotide position (np) 358 and its association with some reproductive traits in Japanese quail. These traits consisted of weight (WSM) and age at sexual maturity (ASM), mean egg weight at 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 2-6th weeks (MEW), and the number of eggs during the 2...
متن کاملMate-choice copying in Japanese quail, Coturnix coturnix japonica
We performed four experiments to examine effects on the mate choices of female Japanese quail, Coturnix coturnix japonica, of observing a male mate with another female. Each experiment was conducted in three phases: (1) a pre-test during which subject females were allowed to choose between two males with which to affiliate; (2) an observation phase, in which subject females either watched or di...

An experiment was conducted to study the eff ect of phytase enzyme (Natuphos 500) supplementation in Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica) (3 to 45 days of age) on body weight, carcass performance, percentage of tibia bone ash and tibia phosphorus. Data were analyzed as a completely randomized design arranged with fi ve levels (150, 300, 600, 1200 and 2400 FTU/Kg) of phytase enzyme as treatments 1...
متن کاملAnatomical and neurochemical definition of the nucleus of the stria terminalis in Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica).
This study in birds provides anatomical, immunohistochemical, and hodological data on a prosencephalic region in which the nomenclature is still a matter of discussion. In quail, this region is located just dorsal to the anterior commissure and extends from the level of the medial part of the preoptic area at its most rostral end to the caudal aspects of the nucleus preopticus medialis. At this...
